We live in a society, in a culture, that thrives on stuff.
We need stuff to be satisfied.
We are constantly bombarded with commercials, movies, advertisements and everything else that surrounds us, that tell us we need more stuff.
If we have more things, more stuff, we will be satisfied.
Take a look at the life of Solomon from the Bible.
He had it all. He had all the money you could wish for.
He had all the women and attention anyone could ask for.
He had all the chariots, the mansion, the perfect job.
He had everything. Would you agree?
If it was a part of that culture, he had it.
And at the end of his life he summed it all up.
He basically wrote a journal about his life in Ecclesiastes.
And when he summed it up he said…
"Everything is meaningless…"
He said in Chapter 1 Verse 14…"I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity (translated to a "mist" or a "vapor") and striving after the wind."
Everything is just a vapor in the grand scheme of things.
He had it all…and it was all meaningless.
What if all that you had was taken from you?
Would Jesus still be enough?
Where is your satisfaction finding footholds?
Everything-God=Nothing
Nothing+God=Everything
So that brings me to another question.
So what is meaningful in our lives?
If everything 'under the sun' is meaningless, all in vain; What is meaningful?
Ecc. 3:14-15, "I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away."
Ecc. 12: 13, "The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man."
Everything in your life will suffer if God is not enough.
Nothing in life will satisfy but Jesus.
Make Him enough. All else is meaningless.
