(If I only had a moment with you)
Let's take a seat.
In a corner booth at a local diner.
Grab some coffee-shade the blinds a bit.
Here's what I would say.
1. No matter your circumstances, there's always someone worse off than you.
We live in America. We are so blessed. Whether you want to believe it or not, you are in the top 1% of the richest people in the world. You have clothes to wear, food to eat, water to drink, cars to drive, a house to keep you warm, a bed to sleep in, shoes on your feet, the latest iPhone and an opportunity for an education. Most, if not all, we take for granted. I know your boyfriend dumped you and tweeted bad things about you but let's put things in perspective. I know your "mom is so mean", she took your phone away…but let's put things in perspective. I know your clothes don't match, but let's put things in perspective. I know today was the "worst day everrrr" but again…let's put things in perspective. I know your boss is a jerk, but let's put things in perspective, you have a job. I know your car is a piece of ****, but let's put things in perspective, you have a vehicle.
IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD THING TO PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE.
2. Listen more, talk less.
Some students talk A LOT. I mean A LOT. Yes, I'm looking at one in particular! haha But sometimes we all talk way too much! We always want people to know our opinion, our thoughts, and yes we are always right. But if we would just take a second and SHUT UP, a lot more would get done. My granddaddy is great at this. He is a man that lives this. And when he does talk….we know it's about to be something good or profound. Listen more, talk less!
3. Forgive quick-Humbly apologize.
Want to change someone's life? Forgive them quickly for something that they've done. Want to really, really change someone's life? Humbly apologize for something that you've done. All is a part of making your life decrease and the life of Jesus increase (John 3:30). This life is not about you, it's about how you can impact others lives.
4. Stop being so freakin mean
Some of my students were SOOOOO mean. And to be honest, us adults, aren't any nicer. We are a mean culture. We are mean society. I read a tweet yesterday absolutely bashing another person. I mean really?! Do we have nothing better to spend our time on than publicly criticizing someone- Just being flat out mean? Turn the tides! Change the culture! Start being nice for a change! There're are enough mean and rude people in this world…don't join the ranks!
5. "Die Empty"
There's no better time than now than to start living. You could die this next hour, has your life been fully lived? I want to be laying on my death bed saying, "Woah! What a ride!" I want to die empty! There's no better way to live than to live in a way that when you die, you die empty!
6. Jesus…Simply Jesus!
May our lives reflect this man…Jesus. There's no better way to live! Just Jesus! Nothing more, nothing less.
Everything-Jesus=Nothing
Nothing+Jesus=Everything.
That is all!
Have a blessed day!
