So if you haven't heard about this situation…
Umm…crawl out of that rock you've been hiding under.
But if you have been under a rock…
Basically, Donald Sterling (Owner of the Los Angeles Clippers) was secretly recorded by his ex-girlfriend saying some pretty raciest things.
On the recording, Mr. Sterling and a woman argue about photos posted to Instagram in which she appears with African-Americans.
The man (Sterling) says he doesn't want the woman bringing any black people to games with her.
Here's my take on the whole situation…
Donald Sterling, your thoughts and comments are appalling.
I do not agree with any of them.
The comments he made make me sick…
When I was in High School, most of my friends were black.
And going to a predominantly white school, that didn't go over too well with some of the other white students.
I was the recipient of some harsh racial slurs and comments.
My ID tag was taken and my face was colored black with the words "N***** Lover" written on it.
My locker had the same words written all over it one day in sharpie.
So this situation strikes a cord with me.
I truly don't understand raciest people…
HOWEVER!
Raciest situations are a touchy subject.
White people ARE NOT the only people who are raciest,
and Black people are not the only recipients of racism.
Black people can be just as raciest as white people and vice versa.
We all could use a little dose of reality in this situation.
No race is more raciest than the other, even though our culture and media would like to say otherwise.
With that being said, I think one of my good buddies summed this situation up pretty well,
he said, "I do think using private comments to judge a man is a slippery slope. Not sure any of us want some of our choice words to go public."
He went on to say, "Hopefully this is a lesson for us all, especially those who have a mouthpiece. Integrity still matters when the mic is off."
We are all human.
We are all equal when it comes to race.
We all say STUPID and IGNORANT things at times.
We all deserve the consequences to our stupid actions and comments.
We can't be IGNORANT and NAIVE enough to think all our thoughts, words and actions are without fault.
To sum it up…
What Donald Sterling said is disgusting. His words and thoughts are point blank stupid.
Donald Sterling deserved his punishment and all the consequences.
However, I can't say that I've never said some stupid and ignorant things, and if they became public y'all would probably crucify me as well.
We are all human and all say and do stupid and ignorant things sometimes.
Integrity is huge and we should treat it as one of the most important things in our lives.
Just love Jesus.
Love others and we will all be alright!
