One of the biggest questions you will ever be asked is…
What are you going to do with your life?
What career path are you going to take?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
These questions pretty much make time stop and make my stomach do swan dives in my throat.
They scare the ever-lovin ni-nis out of me!
But these few statements help to calm me in the frantic, where's the closest window so I can jump moments.
1. Do all you can to make God famous.
1 Cor. 10:31 says, " Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." In whatever path you choose in life, whatever career, do all you can to make much of God and make his name famous!
2. Do not conform to the world around you.
Think of every area in your life. Are you conforming to the world around you or are you confounding to the world around you? Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world…" No matter what the world says, follow Jesus not your heart.
3. Find your joy in God, not money.
This one is hard. Money makes the world go round BUT my God made this world! You were created to worship God. And one cannot worship both God and money. Is money nice? Sure. Can money satisfy? NO! Satisfy yourself in Him!
4. Do God's work.
An accountant, a program developer, a mom who makes the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are works from God, planned by him long before your first day on the job. All of your good works, on and off the clock, were prepared for you in order that you would walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). Whatever you do, give 100%, like you were doing it for God himself.
5. Provide for your family. Work hard.
If you want to eat, you work! We live by faith, we eat by work! In all that you do, wherever you are, work hard to provide for your family. So much character is formed when you work hard. This is not always financially. Fathers and mothers provide for their family in so many unpaid ways. Work hard wherever God has placed you! Don't accept things to be given to you.
6. Overflow to others.
Serve those around you. Do all you can to meet the needs of those around you! We are blessed--How can we bless others by our work? What job do you have right now that can in some way bless someone else? Own your own auto repair? Want to bless someone? Tell them free of charge. Own a restaurant? Tell them their bill has been paid for. You're a teacher? Bless your students by giving them an A grade on something they didn't realize they would. I don't know. There are plenty of ways to bless others and overflow his greatness.
7. Help build His Kingdom not ours.
All of our work should be contributing to this great cause, His Kingdom.
8. Work for what lasts.
Life is short. Everything not done for Christ will be done in vain.
I pretty much just did this for myself.
Maybe it will be for you too!
