Ever have one of those stories that takes a drastic turn that you did not expect?
Well here's a long story…kind of short.
My buddy had been putting together these bags for the homeless (tarps, toiletries, blankets, etc….)
One night we decided to go ahead and go give them out in downtown Greenville.
A couple buddies and I loaded up the car and headed downtown.
We kind of just made the decision to stay the night, meet some of the people downtown, give them these bags and then grab some coffee and head back to our apartments.
That was our plan…
However, our plans usually aren't the same as God's plan.
We were down near the train station pretty late at night/early in the morning and noticed an old, black woman sitting on a bench.
(I'm getting chill bumps just telling you this story)
Our plan was just to ask her if she wanted a bag and then jet.
She said she had never been on the streets before…this was her first night out on the streets.
She said she was scared.
She had just been kicked out of her apartment because she couldn't pay rent.
She ended up being a believer and wouldn't let us pray for her but she wanted to pray for us.
She wanted to pray for 5 white, college boys.
She was so sweet…so kind.
We prayed for her safety. Her protection. Gave her a bag...
And we walked away…
We all got back in the car and at pretty much the exact time thought…there's more we need to do for her.
She ran back down to her…asked her to jump in the car with us,
drove her to her apartment…knocked and knocked on the landlords apartment and pretty sure we woke him up,
we threw some money together and I kid you not,
had EXACTLY the amount we needed to get her back into her apartment that morning!
Sometimes, there's more we can do than pray.
Prayer is amazing!!!
But prayer is not an excuse for inactivity!
Work as though it depends on you but pray as you know it depends on God!
