In our world today, in our society, every bit of info comes to us in easy-to-read, short, one liner, tweetable snippets and emojis.
This is great for breaking news, good quotes and quick thoughts, but unfortunately, our minds are becoming hardwired to expect all of our information to be fast and user friendly for us.
We are trained to read 140 character tweets, watch 6 sec. vines and show someone we love them by simply double tapping their photo or retweeting their tweet.
This way of thinking has trickled into the way we read the Bible.
With our phones always arms length away, we can fall into observing the Word of God as something to fashion into a tweet or overlay on beautiful mountain landscape on Instagram.
We have deviated from reading the Bible for ourselves, to reading short Bible verses or opinions shared by others and sharing those on social media in attempts to show others we are reading our Bibles.
This is the difference from being a believer is Jesus and being a follower of Jesus.
Christians today, find it much easier, safer, more convenient to retweet a good Bible verse than spend a half hour in the Word and become a more effective follower of Jesus!
Our "quiet time", "you time" or whatever you want to call it, shouldn't be spent with your scrolling news feed in front of you but the Word of God.
The Bible isn't something we can scroll through, retweet what we want, ignore what we don't like, double tap and repost things we really like and unfollow things that make us mad.
His Word is something we must read, study, meditate, spend time with, mull over and let it change our lives.
So here is my challenge to you...AND TO ME!
This blog post is for me as much as it is for you!
Try it. This week.
BEFORE YOU EVEN PICK UP YOUR PHONE IN THE MORNING...get into HIS WORD for a bit.
Before you jump on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook, jump into your Bible.
Just try it.
I am challenging myself as well.
Let's do it!
